Construction equipment tracking

Ask where the compactor is and the answer should not be a round of phone calls. Each tool, machine or plant item becomes an equipment record the moment it is registered, and the system hands it the next inventory number in the BM series automatically. The list then shows number, name, kind, location, project, holder and status together, so the yard reads its whole stock in one screen.

Four statuses carry the item through its life: available, assigned, in maintenance, retired, each with the same row color it has everywhere else in the software. Kind comes from a value list the company edits itself. A record can point at a project and at an active employee at the same time, holds a serial number, a free location, the next service date and notes, and accepts the custom fields defined for the company.

The shared protocol travels with the item, so notes, comments, meetings, minutes, photos and emails about a damaged saw stay on the saw rather than in somebody’s inbox. Assignment to a project links the machine to the file the site already works in. A retired item keeps its number and its whole history instead of disappearing, and every creation and change is written to the audit trail.
